A Summer Camp Season to Remember
12/5/17, by Camp Director, Dave Sherman
More than 800 kids from across New York State attended the Sheriffs' Camp this summer. The Sheriffs' Camp is a safe place for disadvantaged kids to gain confidence and feel happy. It's a place where children positively interact with law enforcement and build trusting relationships. The summer included 400 campfire songs, 48 cookouts, 36 miles hiked, 12 beach picnics, and too many marshmallows to count. It also featured demonstrations by New York State Sheriffs' Deputies, including helicopters, canines, scuba, SWAT, and even a magic show. Thank you for your continued support in helping the New York State Sheriffs' Institute support our state's youth. It's all about the kids.
At the Sheriffs' Institute, we're very grateful for our campers and staff at our summer camp. In this video, you'll hear from Zeke Pierce who has in his words, "worn every hat at camp." He has been coming to camp every summer since he was 14 and started out as a counselor-in-training. Zeke says that kids have changed over the years, but what hasn't changed it that they all respond to kindness, generosity
