Sheriff Jack Stenberg served in the US Navy from 1964 thru 1966. He began his police career in 1968, when he joined the New York State Police. He spent his entire 29 year state police career in the “Troop E” area, retiring in 1997. As an Investigator in the BCI, he spent over ten years as a Certified Polygraphist as well as being a member of the Major Crimes/VCIT Unit. For three and a half years he was a Special Investigator with the Seneca County District Attorney’s Office, resigning after being elected Seneca County Sheriff in the Fall of 2007. Sheriff Stenberg has appointed Gary Sullivan to the Undersheriff position. Sullivan retired from the Seneca Falls Police Department in 1998 and was immediately hired and appointed an investigator with the New York State Insurance Fraud Bureau and has worked in the Rochester office, retiring as a Senior Investigator. Stenberg’s goals continue to include getting the accreditation started in the Civil, Corrections and Law Enforcement Divisions and increasing the professional level through training for all department personnel. Seneca County has a population of 33,342 and covers 391 square miles lodge between Cayuga and Seneca Lakes of the Finger Lakes area.
