Tony Desmond was elected Sheriff of Schoharie in 2009, and commenced his first four year term of office on January 1, 2010. Sheriff Desmond was raised in Marshville, Montgomery County, and graduated from Canajoharie Central School.  Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served 40 months of overseas duty in Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

After his military service, he joined the New York State Police and served for 28 1/2 years as a Trooper, Sergeant and Investigator.
He was then elected Supervisor for the Town of Sharon.  Along with being the Town Supervisor, he was a member of the Schoharie County Board of Supervisors for 10 years before being elected County Sheriff.

He has been a member of the Sharon Springs Fire Department for 29 years and is a certified Emergency Medical Technician.
Sheriff Desmond and his wife, the former Patti Brigham of Cherry Valley, have lived in Sharon Springs for 40 years.  They have 2 grown sons and 5 grandchildren.

Schoharie County has a population of 33,000 and an area of 626 square miles, which includes 16 towns and 6 Villages.
