Getting Ready for the Kids
June is a busy month at the Sheriffs’ Camp. Work crews and counselors are busy preparing the camp facility for the kids who will be arriving from all over New York State. It’s a time when excitement mixes with anticipation. The camp is about to come to life with kids who so badly need that opportunity.
Our friends from the Lions Club of Penn Yan have taken on the job of replacing the roof on one of the camp’s larger cabins. Area farmers have sent bails of hay for the archery range. Local fire officials are helping to find ways to water the athletic field and “power” the slippery slide. As you can see, the Sheriffs’ Camp has a great deal of community support.
But the lifeline of the camp is the support it receives from our honorary members. The Sheriffs are so very appreciative of the honorary members, who have made the Sheriffs’ Camp’s 30 year existence possible. And, so are over 10,000 economically challenged children who have been campers at the Sheriffs’ Camp.
