Sheriff Gerace began his career with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office over 28 years ago as a seasonal Navigation Deputy; he was appointed a full-time Deputy Sheriff in 1979 and was assigned as the first full-time Crime Scene Investigator for the agency. He was promoted to Technical Sergeant in 1989 where he supervised the Crime Scene Division. Prior to his election, Sheriff Gerace earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Jamestown Community College, a Bachelors Degree in Police Science from Mercyhurst College, and a Masters Degree in Administration from Alfred University. Sheriff Gerace is a past President of the NYS Sheriffs’ Association. He is a graduate of the National Sheriffs’ Institute where he was elected as President of his class. He was appointed to the State 911 Board and serves as the Chairman of the 911 Committee for the NYS Sheriffs’ Association.
He is an active volunteer and serves on the United Way Board of Directors and the Chautauqua Opportunities Board of Directors. He coaches youth hockey and soccer. He resides in West Ellicott with his wife Gina and their seven children: Andrew, Thomas, Elizabeth, Joseph, Jacob, Michael and Mary. Chautauqua County is the southwestern most county in the State
